Accurate and Detail Oriented

In all of these different clubs that I described above, I have had to speak in front of people countless amounts of time in order to conduct meetings and also give announcements. It’s hard to measure a person’s influence in just one situation but I feel that I have demonstrated influence multiple times in similar situations such as when a group project is making a decision on a topic or a detail. When it comes down to making the final decision, group members have taken my advice and selected the decisions that I had formulated because of my influence on group projects that I have participated in previously. I do this by gaining the respect of my classmates with solid decision making and compromising on important discussion topics.  For example, recently in working on a project for the club BPA, we were analyzing an economic report for our Economic Research Team Event. In this particular situation, my group mates looked to me to decide which facts were most important and should be reported in our project. They decided on the facts that I thought were most important because they believed in my knowledge of economics and trusted my experience to make the right decision. By this manner, I am able to influence groups positively so they might make the best decision possible for their group.

Qualifications

I have always been involved in many clubs and organizations school affiliated and not school affiliated. So, by the time my senior year came around, these clubs and organizations looked to me to step into a leadership role because of my experience with them over the course of 2-5 years. With these 5 leadership roles being taken on, I realized that I need to organize my schedule more than anything. From this, I now have 3 places where I record dates and information that is necessary for me to know. The first is my calendar that is shared between my phone, iPad, and laptop. The second is very similar but it is a white board calendar that is meant to reinforce those dates on a hard copy like surface. The next is my planner, which contains all the information I might ever need to know about any club or organization it seems. And lastly is my favorite; my pencil pouch. This magical pouch contains any utensil you might need to complete an assignment for school or for one of my many clubs and organizations. So with all of this responsibility, I have grown a neck for organization and use it to establish efficient work procedures.

Exceptional Public Speaker with Influence
Motivator and Team Builder

With long school days and endless loads of homework, sometimes my baseball team will be unmotivated to work at practice on a given day. Many times this has been the case and coaches of my team look to me to provide leadership and motivation. In this particular situation I can think of, it was a cold rainy April day and the field was very muddy from the rain the night before. However, I chose to not let that stop me and put in 100% effort like I would have in any other practice. By demonstrating this effort, many of my teammates were able to respond positively and practice in the manner that I was. For the ones who didn’t I needed to provide upbeat, positive reinforcement for any errors or successes that they had. For example, telling someone they made a great play and encourage them to keep pushing themselves. By this, I was able to create an environment where my teammates felt like they were accomplishing something even if they were having a rough day.

Noteworthy Communication Skills

With being a member and competitor in DECA, a lot of communication is necessary in order to succeed at competition. Presentations are over half of the score in most events; like the one I participated in my junior year. We placed 4th at the State Competition with our team’s presentation score getting a 60/60 while missing a few points on the written submission. However, what this showed was that all members of my group were effectively communicating our project to the judges of the events. In this way, we were able to ensure our presentation left an impact on the judges so that they would remember us come time to rank the competitors.

Outstanding Drive and Commitment

To begin the process to be selected as a candidate for MN BPA State Executive Team, a candidate information packet needs to be sent out to all Chapter advisors at the start of the school year. At this time, I had notified my advisor of my intentions to run for office, however, he said he had not received the packet from the State office at that time. Therefore, I asked him to send it to me as soon as he had received it. I followed up with him a few times in the next weeks but he still hadn’t received anything. A week from the deadline I still hadn’t received a packet so I called the State Director, Jackie Schiller, and asked her to email the information packet and sure enough she did. So, I had a week to complete the 12 tasks that were detailed in the packet. One of the tasks was to get 2 teacher letters of recommendation and an advisor letter of recommendation. This took more tracking down and relying on teachers to meet deadlines. I barely managed to turn it all in on time but this showed my commitment to receiving the candidacy and hopefully will lead to being elected.
